Temporary residence of the bishops of Meissen 

1491-1497 - constructed under Bishop Johann VI of Salhausen on the site of the old castle - the building structure, room distribution and important details (zwinger, drawbridge, spiral staircase or vaulted cell) show the transition from the medieval, late Gothic castle to the early Renaissance castle architecture, thus following the model of Albrechtsburg in Meissen 

1508 - construction of the "Kornhaus" (later also "Government House") with the transitions to the castle and collegiate church 1519 and 1631 - severe damage caused by fires 

1581 - resignation of the last bishop Johann IX of Haugwitz Until 

1818 - seat of the "electoral meissen foundation government" 

1819-1835 administrative center of the office of Wurzen, until 1960 seat of the office or district court, then until 2001 headquarters of the People´s Police district office or the Wurzen police station 

2002 - privatized, fundamental refurbishment and conversion, now a hotel and restaurant
