The medieval new town, a settlement dating from around 1300, had its own church: St. Paul. Right next to it, Augustinian nuns built a convent in the middle of the 15th century, of which a long half-timbered building is still preserved today. It served the town as a hospital from 1540. Its large two-aisled hall on the first floor is typical of hospital buildings from this period. In September 2007, the "Museum im Spital Grünberg" opened there, which was awarded the Museum Prize of the Sparkassen-Kulturstiftung Hessen-Thüringen in 2010. The baroque hospital church was built between 1723 and 1740 on the site of St. Paul's Church, with light flooding in from both sides through high windows. Due to financial difficulties, however, it was not possible to erect a large church tower. The old bell from the 14th century is one of the oldest bells in Hesse. You can marvel at some impressive gravestones in the cemetery.
