[6] Former Lutherhaus

Description

Visitors will notice the gap between the buildings on the corner of Marktplatz and Marktgasse. Until 1891, the so-called Luther House stood here, an impressive Gothic building in which Luther is said to have spent the night on his return journey from the Diet of Worms from April 30 to May 1, 1521. The building was demolished in 1891 due to dilapidation. On the "Luther Trail 1521" pilgrimage route, you can retrace Luther´s journey in 1521 from Wittenberg to the Diet of Worms and back to Wartburg Castle near Eisenach.
