The history of Wannweil railway station
In April 1853, the Wannweil municipal council requested a connection to the planned Upper Neckar Valley Railway at the 194th session of the Stuttgart Chamber of Deputies. The railway was built as planned with a single track, but Wannweil had to share the station with Kirchentellinsfurt. This was built in 1860 on Wannweil territory in the Kirchentellinsfurt "Täle" and was given the station name "Kirchentellinsfurt station". It was not until 1900, when the line to Tübingen was double-tracked, that Wannweil was given a station near the town centre in 1903, even with the name "Wannweil". In the meantime, industry had also developed in Wannweil, as in the entire Echaz valley, which was dependent on hydropower at the time. The spinning mill paid the railway administration a subsidy of 28,000 marks for the construction of a loading track. The municipality had to contribute 20,000 marks for the new railway station including the detached lavatory building. Wannweil now had two railway stations for 34 years, as the "Kirchentellinsfurt railway station" has also been located on local territory since a land levelling in 1937. To this day, the Wannweil station has remained a better shack and even became redundant after the modernisation and automation of the railway technology. The municipality was able to reacquire the building and made it available to the DLRG as a clubhouse.

It should also be mentioned that the railway bridge on Kusterdinger Straße was blown up at the end of the war in April 1945, and in autumn 1945 it was once again open to single-track traffic. The second part of the bridge could be used again from mid-1946. In 2023, the bridge structure will be renewed in a technically demanding process at a cost of 5.7 million euros.
