Glockenturm

Beschreibung

The bell tower is the former keep. From the 13th century onwards, the keep began to be built into the ring wall, in the most endangered part of the castle complex. Usually, it was not until the 12th century that the keep was built in a round shape. The tower was probably demolished in the 17th century and was later called the "Blunt Tower". With the demolition of the tower, the inhabitants of Herrstein wanted to demonstrate defenselessness to the invading French during the Turenne campaign.

From 1958 it was used as a bell tower. The first elaborate restoration of the church took place and the bells were moved to the newly raised tower.
