Beschreibung

The house was built after a fire around 1840 on the remains of the old building. The building, clad in plain smooth plaster, is built of half-timbering that extends to the ground floor. The peculiarity of the angled roof surfaces results from the location as a corner house. The wooden gallery built on the courtyard side is worth seeing. These balconies, which are typical of Herrstein, are often found on houses from the 18th and 19th centuries. In 1841, the first pharmacy in the village was opened in this house. The pharmacist Wilhelm August Roth came from Oldenburg. In 1850 he was elected as one of Birkenfeld's deputies to the Oldenburg parliament. After Roth's death, his wife had the pharmacy managed by her son and then by several provisional assistants. In 1889, her son-in-law Otto Kleinschmidt moved the pharmacy to Hauptstraße 45.
