The residential building (left) and the neighbouring barn (right) were built at the same time in 1742, according to a dendrochronological survey. The house and barn, connected by a small intermediate building, are built over a steep slope of the rock below the castle. The house foundations, leaning against this rock, rise about 5 m and are partly additionally reinforced by sloping retaining walls. The debts finally reached the sum of 500 guilders, which was settled by the municipality ceding the valuable meadow between the stream and the pond near the wool spinning mill (now Kunzsche Tannery) to Roth without further ado. The later owner built the largest tannery in the village on this meadow at the entrance to the village. Until 1955, the company was one of the largest employers in Herrstein.Since tanning was done with oak bark (Lohe), farmers and craftsmen in the area also found a sideline in tanning. Some of the money was paid for in finished leather for their own needs.
