The house name "Bäcker-Hannickels" can be traced back to a baker Johann Nikolaus Reichardt (1778 - 1862). The baker's sign, the pretzels, can still be seen on the neoclassical front door. Like many bakers, Johann Nikolaus Reichardt also practiced the craft of beer brewer. In the first half of the 19th century, there were 6 beer producers in Herrstein prove.
