Haus Kullmann (Uhrturmgasse 9)
This house is the oldest house in the town centre. According to dendrochronological research, it was built in 1478.
From 1737 to 1766 it was owned by a Mr. Leopold Pauly. He was an innkeeper and a court judge by profession. He may also have been a baker who provided food and drink to the inmates of the Schinderhannesturm.Since notes are made on some slips of paper concerning Weck and pretzels, it does not seem impossible that a baker's trade was practiced in this house.
During the restoration work, documents were found in the beams
(crumpled and partly already decayed, a letter from 1729 was addressed to the sovereign, the Margrave of Baden, and contains the numerous complaints of the citizens of Herrstein about the administration of the bailiff Jacobi).
The date on which the documents were found was 20 January 1983.
