The house - Schlossweg 9, which was restored in 1980/81 - still stands on the foundations of the old town hall on the left-hand side. Beams in the basement date back to 1467. Between 1820 and 1840 the house was rebuilt and extended by the teacher Grub except for the basement. Grub came to Herrstein as a 17-year-old teacher and taught here for over 50 years until his retirement. His son ran a bookbindery and bookshop in the house.
This is also where the pillory used to stand, which is now attached to the castle wall as a display object.
In the house Schlossweg 9, there is now a knife smithy.
