Description

Catholic parish "Christ the King of Peace"

The Wannweiler Catholics belonged to the St. Johann parish in Tübingen and were affiliated to the "Christus-Friedenskönig" church in Kirchentellinsfurt on 1 November 1953. The pastor at the time was Chaplain Dr Teichtweier. He was succeeded in 1957 by curate Anton Durner, who was appointed to his post as parish priest in 1960, which he carried out in the Kirchentellinsfurt branch parishes of Jettenburg, Kusterdingen and Wannweil for 17 years. Pastor Durner was able to lay the foundation stone for St Michael´s Church in Wannweil on 27 October. Diocesan Bishop Leibrecht celebrated the Eucharist at the consecration on 6 December 1964. The architect was Hans-Georg Durner, a brother of the parish priest. The construction costs totalled 700,000 DM. Constructed space 3350 m³, usable area 631 m², tower height 32 m, 300 seats. There was not enough money for bells. Because a large proportion of Wannweiler Catholics come from the Banat, the church was named after St Michael´s Church in Sackelhausen. A pulpit was dispensed with. The shell was built by the local construction company Friedrich Eckert. When the church was built, kindergarten rooms were added to the church building. The Protestant kindergarten was hopelessly overcrowded at the time. 1974 Pastor Ludwig Härle succeeds Anton Durner. In 1978, thanks to private donors from the parish, the bells were purchased. 1982 The kindergarten was extended from one to two classes. Construction costs approx. 430,000 DM. In 1983, Pastor George Chelapurath came to Kirchentellinsfurt to succeed Pastor Ludwig Härle. In 1987, Pastor Dr Thomas Begovic took up his post as pastor and has now been serving the parish, which has been called "Christ the King of Peace" since 1989, for over 35 years without interruption.
