Reinsport is mentioned in a visitation report from 1569 as a branch of the parish of Emmel. The chapel was built in 1616 and consecrated in 1679. The building has suffered from flooding on various occasions. Inside, there is a wooden high altar with a figure of St. Nicholas between twisted columns decorated with flowers and leaves and cartilage carvings; the crowning, broken gables frame a Pietà. A vesper picture (mid-17th century) shows the 14 holy helpers with a portrait of Mary in the middle and the inscription NOS CUM PROLE PIA BENEDICAT VIRGO MARIA (Mary with the child, give us all your blessing). This wooden altar of the Holy Helpers was acquired by Father Schuhbach at an auction in 1930 from the former monastery church of Nothgottes in the Rheingau. (In connection with the former "fishing village of Reinsport", the Piesport fishing club is thankfully taking care of the preservation of this chapel).
