Figur "Das Kind von Krames

Beschreibung

There is a legend about this house (see also the information board on the fountain in Bachstraße), "The Child of Krames": after the baptism of a child from the village of Krames in the Piesport parish church and extensive celebrations, the baptised child was forgotten in this house by his relatives - "because he had not dressed up" - and only picked up again the following day. The small statue of the Virgin Mary on the outer façade is a reminder of this legend. The happy father does not want to be stingy and does not want to play "the little man". A farmer's pride cannot tolerate such a thing. So they celebrate in the winegrower's best parlour with food, drink, wit and humour. You just let the good Lord be a good man.
The child has been well looked after and placed in the taken (iron rack for firewood) behind the stove. As if it knows that there is enough noise without its help, it behaves calmly away from its worried mother despite its unfamiliar surroundings.

As the mood grows, so do the hours. As dusk slowly creeps in through the doors and windows, the party reaches its climax. One bottle after another is emptied, and people continue to sing and bawl all day long.
It is not until late in the evening that people start to think about leaving. But saying goodbye is difficult and takes a long time. Finally, at the crack of dawn, the christening party marches noisily through the village towards Krames.
What a shock runs through their weeping limbs when the mother at home asks for her child. No one can give her the bundle. How could they? The horrified father runs out into the dark night, pale with fright. The Piesport winegrowing family is astonished when, in the early hours of the morning, the father from Krames knocks shyly and sheepishly on the front door. Without saying hello, he storms past the winegrowers and into the parlour.
