The three-part wayside shrine is modelled on a window shape and bears a cross in the upper part: below it on the left is the motif of the sorrowful Mother of God with seven swords. On the right is a relief of St Michael in full armour.
The image bears the inscription ANO 1506 to 1508 BLIEBEN DA HIE ZUR P: VON BUE ...UIBRICH...STARBEN MIT DEM L: P: KRANK
In today's parlance, this means: ANNO 1506 to 1508, 16 of 98 citizens remained here in Piesport. They died of the pneumonic plague.
The word "Spoar" means barrier. The statue stands at a place where the access road to Piesport used to be blocked. The Spoarbildchen and the Spoar chapel opposite are reminders of a terrible time. But they also remind us of the neighbouring villages' deeds of love. People from the Moselhöhe used to bring food to this barrier and the people of Piesport, who were still able to walk, would come at the agreed time to collect the food. The barrier on the mountainside, once erected as a barrier, became a sacred place of Christian charity.
