The Lohr gallows, to which the stone tower belonged, was probably erected on June 30, 1609, on the orders of Elector Johann Schweikard von Kronberg to replace an older structure. A "high court," also known as a court of blood, judged over life and death and pronounced the death penalty. The location of the high court also underscores the significance of the city.
