Efringen-Kirchen is located in the deep southwest of Baden-Württemberg.
One community, eleven villages: Blansingen, Efringen, Egringen, Huttingen, Istein, Kirchen, Kleinkems, Mappach, Maugenhard, Welmlingen, Wintersweiler.
Efringen and Kirchen were merged in 1942, and the other nine villages were added in 1974.
The villages and the centers of Efringen and Kirchen had kept their rural character. Each village has its own history and its own charm.
There is a lot of scenery around Efringen-Kirchen: the gentle Markgräfler Hügelland with its loess-covered hills, the rocky bar of the Isteiner Klotz with the Isteiner Schwellen, the Rhine with the Grand Canal d'Alsace and - not-so-far-away - the silhouettes of Black Forest and Vosges. Vineyards and viticulture are typical for the area.
Efringen-Kirchen is located along one of the most important European north-south traffic axis. This, as well as the proximity and historical connection to Switzerland's second largest city, Basel, ensure economic prosperity.
