Medieval gem in the Hunsrück
In no other community on the upper Nahe is history as present as in Herrstein. The appearance of the old town centre seems to many to be the ideal of a medieval German small town. But the stones alone speak little and are by no means proof of a "great" past.
Herrstein obviously owes its origin to the fact that the small group of rocks where the Dietersbach trickle flowed into the Fischbach was to some extent turned into a castle
