[1105] Memorial stone at the old city wall

Description

On November 11, 2019, the Mayor of Lohr, Dr. Mario Paul, unveiled this memorial plaque. It lists the names of 17 daughters and sons of Jewish families from Lohr. They were deported from other cities to which they had moved for private or professional reasons, often with their families, and became victims of Nazi tyranny. The locations of their deaths are also mentioned. There were no direct deportations from Lohr, as almost all the Jewish families residing in Lohr were able to emigrate in time.
The plaque is located on a memorial stone in Grafen-von-Rieneck-Straße at the old city wall. It complements a plaque from 1991, which already commemorates "the former Jewish fellow citizens and all victims of the Nazi regime" in a general manner. Meanwhile, the memorial stone has become a place where people pause and leave a candle, flowers, or, according to Jewish tradition, a stone as a sign of their sympathy.
