Steinbach belonged to the Hochstift Würzburg and was held as a fief by various noble houses, including the Lords of Abersfeld, the Counts of Rieneck and Gerolzhofen, as well as the Lords of Erthal. In the 17th century, the village passed through marriage to the Barons of Hutten. They, as protectors, also soon facilitated the establishment of a small Israelite community. The community existed until 1896. The residence with prayer room was the so-called "Judenhof" on the road to Mariabuchen.
Notable is the magnificent Baroque church of St. Josef. Opposite lies the castle of the Barons of Hutten (not open to the public). Parts date back to the 16th century, while the baroque buildings were designed by Balthasar Neumann and Joseph Greising. Steinbach is located at the entrance of the beautiful Buchen Valley. After a short walk, hikers reach the famous pilgrimage church of Mariabuchen. The Main bike path passes directly by Steinbach.
