[1101] Former Jewish Prayer Hall

Description

From 1867/1868 until the dedication of the new synagogue in 1871 (in Fischergasse), the first prayer hall of the Israelite Community of Lohr was located in what is now Lotte-Stern-Gasse. Mention of the prayer hall was made on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Bavarian Constitution Day on May 26, 1868, in the Lohrer Stadtanzeiger. It was noted that "worship services also took place in the synagogue with an uplifting speech by Mr. Teacher Löwenthal." The plaque for the prayer hall as the first memorial site was unveiled on April 16, 2018, by the Mayor of the city of Lohr am Main, Dr. Mario Paul. The necessary premises were rented by the community from a Lohr master roofer as a temporary solution. Through the previously open gate entrance, next to which the information plaque for the prayer hall is located, community members had their own access through the backyard.
