[1102] Information board 75 years of Jewish community

Description

The information board for "75 years of Jewish life in Lohr am Main - Remembering the Israelite Community of Lohr (1864-1939)" is located on the eastern side of Lohr's Castle Square. It is currently the only board in a place in the Bavarian Spessart region that commemorates its former Jewish community in this way. It provides an illustrated overview of the history and of individuals who are meant to represent the former Israelite Community. A crucial factor for the establishment of the community in 1864 was that for centuries, the municipal authorities opposed the settlement of Jews until 1861 when the introduction of freedom of settlement for Jewish subjects in Bavaria legally ended this resistance.
