These are the remains of one of the four representative city gates from the 16th century, which at that time, connected by a city wall, led around Gardelegen. On the opposite side of the street, there was also a bastion, as remains of it can still be seen on the left side today. On the site of the former city fortifications, the green ring of the ramparts now surrounds the city core. The moat can still be sensed in some places.
