Justice, civic pride, and the strength of craftsmen and merchants - these are all symbolized by the Roland. The Gardelegen Roland was first mentioned in 1450. It was damaged multiple times by town hall fires, rebuilt, and finally collapsed on November 7, 1727. On April 18, 2002 - exactly 275 years later - it was erected again. This was made possible by an exemplary fundraising campaign, initiated by the charitable association of crafts of the Altmarkkreis Salzwedel e.V.
