The village church of Berge is a long, rectangular hall construction with a half-timbered tower and brick infill dating from the 15th century. Around 1600, the late medieval stone field church was redesigned with elements of the Renaissance. In this process, the wooden barrel and the exceedingly high-quality ceiling and wall painting were also created, reminiscent of Michelangelo, and thus earning the small church the nickname "Sistine Chapel of the Altmark".
