The church of Schenkenhorst was built in 1872 during the "sacred construction boom" of the Wilhelmine era in the then preferred neo-Romanesque style, based on the remains of the predecessor building from the beginning of the 13th century. Interesting is the historicizing division of the nave and tower by pilasters reminiscent of Romanesque arches. The majority of the interior comes from the turn of the 19th to the 20th century.
