Die Nikolaikirche

Beschreibung

The church of St. Nikolai is an old northern German brick church. Originally, it was a Romanesque basilica. Around 1300, it was overbuilt in the Gothic style, and at the beginning of the 16th century, it was fitted with additional extensions. On March 15, 1945, the Nikolai Church was severely damaged in a bombing raid. Some salvaged pieces, including the altar and the baptismal font, were brought to the Marien Church. The church has long been deconsecrated. The Association for Cultural Heritage Preservation in Gardelegen and its Surroundings has transformed it into a popular venue for both open-air and indoor events in recent years.
