Dorfkirche Seethen

Beschreibung

The 16th-century church in Seethen is one of the rare fortified churches in the region. As with many other churches, extensive changes were made here in the Baroque period, while the historic building fabric was preserved but was also somewhat "over-improved" by the installation of several Baroque elements. Therefore, the current shape of the church is particularly determined by this refurbishment. The most valuable piece of equipment is the pulpit from 1738. However, this is a fragment of a pulpit-altar not originally created for Seethen. The pulpit, crowned by vases - also not original - is located in the semi-circular ending piece, an architectural peculiarity of churches in Altmark. Like many village churches in the region, Seethen's church also has a bell tower built in the 19th century using timber-framing construction techniques.
