Justice, civic pride, and the performance of craftsmen and merchants - the Roland symbolizes all of this. The Gardelegen Roland was first mentioned in 1450. It was damaged several times by town hall fires, rebuilt, and finally collapsed on November 7, 1727. On April 18, 2002 - exactly 275 years later - it was erected again. A commendable fundraising campaign, initiated by the non-profit craft association of the Altmarkkreis Salzwedel e.V., made this possible.
