Dorfkirche Estedt

Beschreibung

Already at its creation in the late Romanesque era, the tower of the Estedt fieldstone church, now crowned by a golden sphere, was regarded as a landmark and was mentioned several times in documents. The fortified church, one of the few of its kind in the region, has been preserved in its original form. The three comprehensive restorations of the church were - not always customary - carried out with great care in relation to the historical building substance. Authentic witnesses from the late Romanesque period are the walled-in round arch portal on the north side and two light slits on the south side of the church. The Estedt church's equipment includes some pieces of significant art historical importance, such as the baroque pulpit with its rich carvings. It is a donation from the von Alvensleben family, indicated by the family coat of arms on the base of the pulpit. From the same period comes the friendly angel above the baptismal font. Testimonies of artisanal mastery are a chalice from the year 1578 and the choir stalls from 1622.
