At this location once stood the birthplace of perhaps the most famous person from Gardelegen - Otto Reutter (1870-1931). He was the highest-paid German humorist of his time and wrote around 1,400 couplets, many of which are still relevant today. He often sang in the evenings about what he had read in the newspaper in the mornings. Even today, countless comedians imitate him. Other points of interest in Gardelegen that remind us of him are the Reutter Fountain at the Wood Market, the statue created by Heinrich Apel in the pedestrian zone, and his tomb at the city cemetery. Today, there is a commemorative plaque for Otto Reutter on the residential building.
