Guan Xiao’s Old Eggs and the Catcher might be borrowed from a fairy tale. Once upon a time, the artist gave her friend an uncooked egg. A year later, its contents had evaporated. All that was left was a simple shell. The eggs in Guan’s installation have a thick, wrinkled skin and allude to the ageing process. They represent polarities of inside and out, life and death, and time passing, as does the process of transformation they embody.
